Mexican Oatmeal / Avena

Avena is oatmeal in Spanish. This version is a lot like Mexican rice pudding but made with oatmeal. So good, comforting, and very filling. Great for these cold winter mornings.

Let's get started.

Avena
2 Cups Rolled Oats
4 Cups Water
1 Cinnamon Stick
1 Can Sweetened Condensed Milk
2 Tbsp. Brown Sugar
2 Cups Milk
Pinch of salt

In a pot add in the water and cinnamon stick and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and allow to simmer for 2 minutes. Add in the oats, a pinch of salt, and allow to cook for 5 minutes.

Then add in the sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar, milk, stir until well combined. Allow to cook for 2-3 minutes.

This should be a little runny. You can continue to cook until thickened or eat as is.

Serve and enjoy.
